Project Description:

RockSol is providing project coordination; public involvement; and structural, geotechnical, and pavement engineering services for the design of the reconstruction and widening of I-25 between SH 392 and SH 14. This Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) project is part of a larger initiative to improve the North I-25 corridor from Denver to the Wyoming border. This phase of the project included designing the widening of I-25 from two to four lanes of interstate and incorporated continuous acceleration/deceleration lanes in each direction, reconstruction of two substandard interchanges (I-25 / SH 14 and I-25 / Prospect Road), initial I-25 express bus and stations, retaining walls and bridge reconstruction, and frontage road reconstruction. These improvements are intended to increase capacity, improve safety, achieve a higher level of service, address drainage issues, and facilitate local access.

To help realize the project goals, RockSol is assisting CDOT and the consultant design team with project coordination, providing outreach to the numerous public agencies along the corridor, and supporting public involvement and stakeholder coordination. RockSol is acting as a liaison between the design teams for the four northern I-25 corridor reconstruction design projects, stretching from 120th Avenue to SH 14. This includes facilitating the coordination among the various projects, participating in the creation of the formal I-25 North – Denver to Wyoming Communications Plan, and interacting with Region 4 management staff and CDOT Headquarters public relations.

RockSol is also conducting the structural engineering design of the Kechter Road over I-25 replacement bridge structure and associated retaining walls. This includes determining the structure type and size and preparing the structural plans, specifications, and estimates for the structures at this location. The geotechnical engineering work being conducted by RockSol consists of subsurface investigation, laboratory testing, and geotechnical recommendations for bridge foundations at six bridges and several retaining walls along the corridor, as well as pavement design parameters.
